Participation Guidelines
Agreements
- I agree to bring a dish label with a detailed ingredients list for my dish, with as much specific information as possible. (See labeling guidelines below.)
- I agree to use both organic and whole ingredients as much as possible in my dish, and to clearly indicate on my dish label when ingredients are conventionally grown or processed/refined.
- I agree to do my best to contribute to a non-judgmental environment, particularly regarding the ingredients used by others.
- I agree to receive & give constructive feedback on the ingredients we've used, in order that we can all learn from the experience.
Invitations
- You are invited to bring your own plate, bowl, and/or utensils. Compostable dinnerware is available.
- You are invited to bring condiments, spices, etc., to suit your needs and tastes.
- You are invited to consider the ingredient lists, especially those containing ingredients you or others don't wish to consume, as opportunities for discussion and learning.
Dish Labeling
Making an informed choice about whether or not to partake of a dish requires sufficient information about the ingredients it contains. You are responsible for providing that information for the dish you bring.
Some things to consider:
- If you use an ingredient that has an ingredients label itself (for example mayo, or a sauce), list its ingredients or bring its bottle or package.
- Be sure to call sufficient attention to non-organic, processed/refined, or questionable ingredients.
- Get specific... for example:
- Don't just list "stevia"... list "liquid stevia extract", or "whole stevia powder", or "refined stevia powder".
- Was the oil you used expeller pressed? Was the bottle marked "unrefined"? Was the safflower or sunflower oil the "high-oleic" type?
- Was the meat you used free range or not? Grass or grain fed?
