Blog while you're drunk
Or at least tipsy. It's a good idea, I'm sure.
Went to a wine tasting today, with you know who. Or is that you know whom? I admit to grammatical ignorance in this case.
I have a cold. I'm almost out of Gan Mao, chinese herbs to get me well. None of this stopped me from sampling the offerings from St. Edmunds, Harrington, and Eno.
No offense to the other two, but Eno's beatin' your pants off. If only through their superior graphic design. Get a designer on your staff, on your team, you need his or her superpowers to really fly. Eno's labels are great, their branding is great (all the... mm, '03s I think... were named according to a criminal theme, e.g. Caught Red Handed, and all the '04s are named according to a dysfunctional family, e.g. The Wild One, The Gifted One... their collateral is great, everything looks great. Yeah, their wines are good, too ;-)
Thursday, April 27th is Dining Out for Life. Yes, spend money, stop AIDS. Capital co-opts everything in its path. But I like food, and I don't like AIDS, and money is there to be spent, right?
horehound stillpoint continues to rock my world:

Des and I saw him read at Books Inc. on, oh, Thursday I believe. The first time we saw him was last summer at the Queer Arts Festival. Anyone who gets up in front of an audience and says, "George W. Bush needs to get fucked," gets my vote.

Amazing. Blessed.
One of the clients I've worked on as part of an NFP team (an adjunct to IMT) just called to tell me that his test results came back and he no longer has Lyme disease!!!
I'm so amazed and grateful to him.

Much to say
And not much energy to say it. I have notes from my Friday morning process, and half of Friday evening's experience written up... highlights:
Gettin' my religion back... if MARK can be on a whole foods vegan diet, I can certainly stop eating as carelessly as I have been. Of course, Mark pays money to go to a support group that's four nights a week where they serve you dinner and everyone rallies round their plummeting weight and cholesterol levels. And he has plenty of time to cook, if you know what I mean.
I have to get by on building my once a month whole foods potlucks. At least I have more time to cook now... read to the bottom to find out why! ;-)
By the way, why haven't the vegans sold the 90% of Americans that are seemingly obsessed with losing weight? I mean, I know that "eat all the meat you want, just no bread" sounds a lot more sexy to our crazy culture, but seriously. Did you ever meet a vegan who gained weight? Don't believe anyone who tries to convince you they "really want to lose weight" and still eats animal protein.
But I digress.
I'm being led to track down my father's parents (and possibly my father with them)... and resisting. I look out to the universe and say, "Shut up."
My "God chakra" is wide open. It's big and active. I like it.
I have serious control issues to let go of. I learned most of them from my grandma :) Ye gods, I sat in on Sunday school with her. She's the teacher for her class. It was eye opening. I love her completely, but I don't want to be like her in every way.
I have a lot more work to do on opening my heart and making it/me truly available. Once done, the flip side is that I'll also be able to receive more.
Two things I definitely have to do for myself and my relationships: 1) intro to Zen on Saturday morning, which will hopefully turn into a regular practice... 2) Go to these people's next polyamory event.
How can I expect to have a successful, satisfying life without decent therapy, zen meditation, or both? Honestly. One down, one to go.
Oh yeah, update: after 15 days of working, I got so drunk at the IEP open house that... well, that nothing. I got so drunk, and it was well worth it. To my credit, FIRST I met the director and a board member first, turned in my resume, told them how much I wanted a job, and got invited back any time to visit. THEN I drank their 1979 Cakebread Zinfandel, as well as their Barbera and Dolcetto and Pinot until I had to go.
One of their clients kissed me :-)
AND, I'm no longer working at the bookstore. In a nutshell, I said, "I have to cut back my regular availability, but I'd still like to be available for people to call to try to get their shifts covered. You're understaffed anyway, you should hire some more people." and in another nutshell, he said, "Uhh... no, how 'bout your next shift can just be your last?"
Fine by me. I am so liberated now. Damn, I've never worked for that little money per hour in my LIFE. So not worth it.

No fucking at work
Well I ended up going in tonight instead of saying, "Piss off" and going to a wine tasting and a panel on plant medicine instead. What did it get me? Three times what I made last week, two times what I made the week before that. What a night.
One of the clients was a younger man from Kansas... he and his even younger cousin are in town visiting, and the poor cousin isn't having such a good time of it. He'd never been to a place like Eros, and it can be intimidating the first time (or three).
I'm ready either for emotional eating or bedtime. Since I don't have any... wait a minute. There's a french pastry in the fridge. It's a tropezienne, from the newish french bistro on Castro.
Oh, neat... I wondered what the stuff on top was:
Baker's crystallized sugar: This is a special kind of "puffed" sugar used is French pastries. It looks like "rice crispies" and has about the same light texture and crunch. It's very difficult to find this type of sugar, but worth the effort to make your Tarte Tropézienne look authentic. The only luck I've had in San Francisco is buying some from a local French bakery.
That was yummy. oK, NOW bedtime.

Wow. Fucking work.
I looked at the calendar and saw that for the past fifteen days I have have had to show up somewhere, sometime, for someone to work, if only for an hour. No wonder I haven't felt like I've had time to breathe.
This Saturday will be the first day in a while that I have no work committments. Of course, I've scheduled other things. Then it's another five days, and I've taken Friday and Saturday off to go see my grandma.
I am not yet sure how to create balance in my life generally, but having a schedule that changes every week is not helping.
