SO over it

I am SO over the Christian Right. I'm so over people in my life who I love very dearly saying things like "Christianity is under attack in this country." and "Legal marriage rights? Oh that's between God, a man, and a woman."

I am so over people who think gays are the dangerous ones to have children around.

I am so over a group of self-righteous hypocrites who ARE and DO everything they claim is bad about gays: from "meth and the red states", to the crazy ex-gay program that's been protested in Mephis (talk about trying to recruit and convert to the "other side"), and now I read this:

http://gay.com/news/article.html?2005/07/14/3

I wish guttural sounds of anger and confusion had proper spelling, because honestly words rather fail me. Please tell me you understand my inability to cope with the INSANE.

Did I mention the church in Virginia that was SET ON FIRE after deciding to support same-sex marriage? Arson: the new family value.

Or the man in Niger who faces being STONED TO DEATH for sticking it in?

No one gets stoned for being Christian anymore. I'm sorry the Romans fed your ancestors to lions, but that's no excuse today.

Laughing so I don't cry,
Josh

My favorite T-sheet reads "So Many Right Wing Christians, and so few lions" I wear only on Sundays to show how I feel on this topic. You're right laugh at it or it will scare you silly. You see we thought as a gay community that we came along way over the past two decades, but in most of this country we didn't move much. Now gays, or those who are percieved to be gay, are taking steps backward in how they are being treated by their school peers, parents, teachers, etc.

Why did someone die on the cross so there could be so much hate? Those people are not being very Christ like, so are they really christians? hmmm now I am getting gutteral sounds in my stomach. I guess I will get out the ole t-shirt so I can smile.

Josh,

You are overlooking one glaring fact: The vast majority of those who call themselves Christians, based on the Bible, are so in name only. They are no more Christians than are those suicide bombers Muslims. Both groups are full of hate and intolerance, while wearing the garb of their faith. Neither practices what their holy books teach, for both teach peace, love, forgiveness, and in the case of Christianity, that EVERY PERSON is a sinner and is in need of forgiveness, not just homosexuals. (In fact, the word Islam translated means peace.) Where Christiantity is concerned, in Christ's day homosexuality was widespread, due to the Greek and Roman influences. You never read of Christ or His disciples acting like the "Christians" of today. Burning anything down and stuff like that is borne of hate. Hate has NO part of true Christianity. The Bible goes so far as to state that those who have any hate have no part of Christ.

You know that I sincerely believe that this world, as we know it, will soon be coming to an end. Immediately prior to that, things will occur that will show who the phonies really are and just who are true Christians. The true will be in the EXTREME minority. At that time, even they will be persecuted by those who falsly wear the label "Christian".

Bottom line: please do not lump all who call themselves Christian into the same bucket.

You're right, Mark.

And some Christians are as angry as I am that these folks are getting to structure the debates, position themselves as "the moral majority", and fundraise major bucks to keep spreading their insanity.

Some Christians find themselves in solidarity with us... like the church in Rochester that hangs a HUGE rainbow flag over the side of its cathedral every Rochester Pride.

And yet, my grandma--while she has withdrawn her support for the 700 club--still sends checks to other conservative crazies.

Where are the "true Christians" as you call them? Where are the voices saying, "No, that's not Christianity. That's not us."? Where are the letters to the editor, the blogs, the protest participants?

For those already doing it: thank you. For the rest... you don't want to be lumped into the same bucket? Prove you're different. Not merely with nice words, but by taking action.
